Dùng was; were diễn tả quá khứ (sự việc, hành động đã xảy ra)

Dấu hiệu nhận biết quá khứ : ago; last night/week/month/year , yesterday …., ngữ cảnh

Số ít (1)	Số nhiều (2 trở lên)
There was a Big C super market.	There were + Ns (danh từ số nhiều) There were bikes 10 years ago. There were trains one hundred years ago. There were some …… There were lots of….. There weren’t any…….
	any: bất kỳ, dùng cho câu phủ định số nhiều some, lots of: khẳng định số nhiều

Chuyển các câu sau, hiện tại thành quá khứ, hoặc ngược lại

hiện tại	quá khứ

AND dùng liên kết 2 ý khẳng định trong 1 câu

Ly is happy and cheerful.

BUT dùng liên kết  ý khẳng định và ý phủ định/trái ngược  trong 1 câu, dùng dấu phẩy trước BUT.

Huy is handsome, but he is mean. (trái ngược)

I like fish but I don’t like meat ( phủ định)
